Blogging Using The Django CMS Platform

by Emmanuel D. on April 18, 2012

Blogging is one of the most activity in the internet. WordPress blogs alone comprises more than 15% of the websites in the net and the blogging platforms available now just keeps on increasing. CMS like WordPress, joomla and blogger are the front runners of blogging software and you may have not heard of Django before but Django is also a robust choice as a blogging platform.

Django uses the Phyton framework and very similar to Ruby so it is more of building blocks rather than the usual coding focused CMS. Most users are hesitant in using other CMS like Django in blogging and would just prefer WordPress or Blogger due to its popularity and user-friendliness but Django can be a powerful blogging tool and indeed one of the most underrated software right now.

Here are the advantages of using Django in Blogging:

1.  Better SQL Management –  With Django, you have full control of your MySQL database and unlike other CMS platforms where it is preinstalled and pre-defined. Django database are more secured and not prone to hacking since you built it and not custom-built.

2. Better Templating Language – Django uses Ruby on Rails and Phyton and its more of programming than designing which gives you stronger functionality and features. You can build basic blogs to robust and high-end blogs with Django and you have full control of the templates and the database.

3. Helps You Improve Your Programming Skills – Blogging with Django really improves your programming skills since it requires a bit installation of Phyton and Ruby and configuration on some scripts. You will also have to be building templates for the front end of your Django-based blog. Django is not difficult compared to other language when programming and it can keep you on track in a short period of time.

4. Personal Satisfaction – I heard lots of people gaining personal satisfaction making websites and blogs using the Django framework it is because it is not a common software and there is a sense of achievement when you are able to develop a blog that is fully functional and working.

Do not hesitate if you are planning in pursuing a career in Django development and creating a basic blog  in Django is your first step. It may be a bit difficult at first but once you got accustomed to the environment then you can create more complex blogs and websites.
